Haven't had much in the way of time/motivation, but I could post some minor updates later. I've taken a bit of break while I recharge the old motivation batteries.

| Finally got some DE stuff done: Finished off the last two Scourges to finish up the flock(?). I'm looking to make something for the Archon's challenge next. More Trueborn and that last Archon? It's good to paint things evil and pointy again. | |

| It was worth the wait- they are awesome and you should feel awesome. Love how you have broken the scheme with amber runes and feathers. Kudos, man! | |

| Thanks all! I was trying to figure out what to paint next with the DE itch starting back up again, and turned to my remaining Incubi: Couldn't figure out what to paint up for the Archon's Challenge that was slightly Archon Claus-ish themed when I realized that Incubi not only have pointy ears (AC's evil elves), but they also have horns (reindeer! ) The one in the center is my Klaivex. Not much of a conversion; I never use demi-klaives, and I don't really see the Klaivex as being overly-showy aside from an extra trophy here and there. (One of my favorite scenes from Path of the Incubus was where Morr immediately strung up a trophy while Motley talked trash to him!) For the HQ choice to go with it I will be doing up an old-school model depending on what parts I can scrounge up this weekend. Hopefully will have WIP pics up later this weekend. | |

| Got a little work in on the Fiend, and completed my Razorwing Flock test model: I have to assemble the other 3 stands of Razorwing Flocks after I finish up that Fiend! My army was used for a campaign pic run by one of the SC regulars. Link here | |

| flock looking good so far.
Damn those campaign pictures look so good, it's awesome seeing 2 amazing armies fighting eachother, that's the best part of this hobby. I'm sorry to say but I haven't had that opportunity with my guys yet T T, not that the painters were always that terrible, but I don't think I've ever faced a guy with a fully painted army yet in all these years. I only play with my painted stuff so far.

| Fantastic pics ESE. My brother and I are getting our stuff together for a campaign... this only adds to my inspiration to get it done.
The Razorwings look great as well...how was the finecast? Or did you get metal ones?

I wish they were metal. They are not the greatest Finecast versions that I traded some old stuff for. Some of the feathers here and there are a little jacked, but the old stuff that I dumped to get them was worth it. I couldn't tell you how they are in Finecast (now that GW has finally nailed it) because 1. There are only 4-5 players in the local area and 2. None of them are willing to shell out $17 for one 15pt stand I should have a pic up later today of the Clawed Fiend that I finished last night once it warms up enough to varnish it. I've had to prime and varnish in a bathroom here because the temperature outside is very un-central coast California like this week. (31*F this morning) I know, California weather wimp

| Not sure what's better in this case. I know I'll have to deal with metal when I buy old stuff, but painting the metal versions was pretty torublesome, you know the usual paint getting off the edges. The molds needed some anoying correcting too. The metal molds weren't that good, I imagine the finecasts are pretty lousy too, but I think I've rather have these ones in finecast. The only finecast models I don't like are the ones with straith weapons, anything else can be in finecast. I don't mind paying for these, but now that I know all is going to be replaced by plastic, I'd rather wait. I don't think it will take that long, just look at the sheer amount of plastic and how few finecast models remain compared to the old days where you had so many metal models. These beast I actually don't mind getting in finecast even with a couple of bubbles, but plastic would be better. The beastmasters, I want plastic or nothing, but I'll just convert my next ones from hellions. Plastic birds would be a lot better, thinner molds. It's not that they're bad, but they could be better. As far as GW is concerned they're the best flying birds. - Quote :
but the old stuff that I dumped to get them was worth it T T you got rid of old stuff? I hope it wasn't dark eldar T T. I don't find selling old stuff worth it, besides I love the old range. Does this mean we won't get any old stuff in the future? - Quote :

None of them are willing to shell out $17 for one 15pt stand Evil or Very Mad The easiest most insane unit in the codex are grots, almost nobody gets them, huge price, 1 single model with 2 options. Check out the cost for 4 of these + a heamonculus, that's freaging expensive unit. You're one of the 3 people on the net I've seen ,who bought them. Quite a few people bother to buy the beasts, though not in hughe quantities. The Khymera are pretty expensive too, but the models are so amazing.

| not to derail, but i have flocks from both metal and finecast and the metal ones are vastly superior in my case. the finecast were bent and horridly covered in flash and leftover mould. nasty. the metal was also better to drybrush for me anyway. anyway, looking for to seeing the clawed fiend. do love that model. | |

| Love the Razorwings and the Scourges especially, ESE. The brown is a nice touch.
The Clawed Fiend is to me what Grot's are to you, I would love to have 8-9 of those if I could. I think it is a great model, similarly limited by the uni-pose. It is so limited that I have been hesitant to even try and squeeze out a couple of minor different poses. Such a shame.

| No no, the clawed fiend is very easy to change. It's covered by hair and muscles mainly, with basic greenstuf skills, you can change the position of the arms, legs, whatever, very easily. It's what I did with mine. - Evil Space Elves wrote:
I have 8 of them The only DE player with 8 GW grots in the entire world, for sure . I'm also a huge fan, I'll probably keep 1 untouched and all his buddies I'll change. This is a comlpetey other matter with the grot models, they're very detailed models, with a lot of typical high amount of GW details, changing stuff on those requires a lot more work. My plan is: to buy about 5-6 grots, 1, as always untouched, the 5 others cut into several pieces, I'll separate arms, heads, leggs and make a total of 10 grots, I already got the bitz I need, talos and I'll be using as weird as it may sound orc bitz, with a lot of greenstuff too. Knowing myself I won't be satisfied with only 10 grots, I'll make more from other kits, but I want at least 10 ones that look a lot like the official one. BTW on the flocks again: now that I remember, some of the feathers on mine weren't casted correctly, probably because they were from the first batch of metal casts. I mainly had to resort to freehand to correct these molding mistakes.

| ESE,
your work and effort has greatly improved, and in my opinion, you are getting very close to the point to be considered one of the top painters around.
I think I should be asking you for advise and painting tips.

| I can't believe that I just found this thread. I love your project. Also, I feel better about painting all my armies with the same color. People must be naturally attracted to certain colors and yours are purple and green. Keep up the good work. | |

| Thanks Dakkon and fluffystuff! this army has truly been my baby for some time now. Got the beasties done(terrible lighting, wife is in the bedroom with the flu and didn't approve of setting lighting!) I kinda forgot that you need beastmasters for this unit to work...looks like I'm buying Hellions today for conversions - GAR wrote:

Very kind and flattering, but I can think of at least two pieces of hardware in your collection that would say otherwise!

| Still need the Khymera to work too :p, but yeah hellions too. They look great as always.
Seriously, how do you get yourself to keep painting stuff? You regularly get stuff done, I always go through lazy periods, espcially this year, I haven't touched my 95% done hellions for over a months ><.
I kinda feel retarded, you know what I'll just pick up my brushes right now and go finish those stupid hellions I need to finish.
