Really want to start playing Drukhari. First a list before buying. 1k thoughts?

Budget :
The army looks fine, but it's going to be very expensive if you have to buy everything from scratch.
First, i highly recommend the Dark Eldar start collecting and the Kabalites Skysplinter. Those are excellent values, it will give you your Archon and 3 reavers (in the start collecting), and 1 raider+10 kabalites in both boxes.

I personnally think Raiders are a better unit in 8th than venoms, so lots of people disagree with this. However, Raiders are cheaper to start an army on because of the existence of the 2 boxes i mentionned.

Also, the Voidraven is hella expensive, and it's not gamebreakingly more powerful than the RWJF, so i suggest buying that one instead.

Meta

First, abandon the idea of giving your elite weapon bearers Splinter cannons, especially if you're fielding Venoms :
- A scourge with a SC will cost the same as 2 scourges (a bit more, actually). 2 Scourges bring as many shots, but are twice as survivable, twice as good for objectives, twice as good in cc.
- Blasters are generally a better buy for trueborns. I don't know if you really need 8 blasters in a 1000pts tag, but mixing blasters and SC in a single unit is always weird : you're going to have to position that unit close to its target. If it has 2 different targets, positioning gets weird.
- It's a detail, but Phantasm Grenade Launchers (called PGL around here) are a very good buy.

I read that mandrakes are a good pick.

Take one unit of trueborn out and replace it with mandrakes?

My lists tend to be multiples of:

Trueborn with 4 blasters in a venom
Scourge with 4 blasters
Scourge with 4 dark lances
Kabalite Warriors with a blaster in a venom OR making the numbers up in a Raider


Incubi are awesome, the finecast models not so but a few of them being flung into the enemy makes everyone smile

I've got some Razorwings and a Voidraven. I think the RW are much more useful more of the time but the VR is lovely too.

Personally, I think Wyches are pointless.

I bought two Getting Started and 1 Skysplinter boxes recently - they really are a good way to get a good basic force up and running quickly.

The price is not really an issue. I dont intend to buy this all at once. I have a SM army and I can proxy till I know what I want, but I need to be able to test first and know from experts what's good to put in an army in the first place

Is it smart to equip Scourges with dark lances. If you use them with their "deepstrike" they only hit on 4's. Is it worth it?
Or do you not drop them at all and so become cheap heavy weapons which have a good mobility to them?

4 Dark Lances shooting at T8 on the move (hitting on 4+) inflicts 3.5 dmg in average.
4 blasters shooting at T8 (hitting on 3+) inflicts 2.6 dmg.

So even on the move, Dark Lances are better than blasters. They also have twice the range, and will get increased value if you don't move (which isn't very hard when your range is 36").

For me the only reason to take a blaster scourges squad is budget... but the difference is only 20pts.

The same truth exists for blasters vs dark lances on trueborn. You actually get a better anti vehicle squad of trueborn from the darklance born than the blaster born.
But, and this is the caviat, their usefulness against other targets, like MEQ drops signicantly when on the move.

Unfortunately, this realisation doesn't get us very far, as if you don't take blasters, there aren't really any good weapons for them to take (shredders are worse than splinter rifles), so the only benefit is a slightly cheaper squad, that is a little more specialised.
I am trying splinter cannons in trueborn to try and add some of this extra use now they are cheaper, but we will see if they get in each other's way, needing to shoot at different targets

Playedtested this list against tyranids. Got first turn. Killed me some exocrines.

He had 2 malenthropes 1 of them hq
2 exocrine
10 genestealers
3x 3 rippers
4 hiveguard
Secure obj steal mission

Killed 1 exocrine turn 1 and halved the 2nd. Went south from there. Game ended after turn 3. His last exocrine was dead. Only 4 genestealers and 1.5 hiveguard left.
I lost bomber. Raider. Venom and ravager. Scourges and trueborn together with archon were affective
