| Hi everyone,
after trawling through and drooling over some of the other entries in here, I thought I'd start my own project log detailing my take on the Dark Eldar.
I've only got a few test models painted so far although I've got boxes and boxes of stuff I'm putting together at the moment.
First look through the codex I noticed that each section has three definite elements to it, there's always a Kabalite choice, a Wych choice and Coven choice available (ok, no surprises there). Given the basic FoC and the way I like to put my collections together with one unit for each slot on the basic FoC(historically I'm much more of a painter than gamer, though I'm hoping to change that this year) I decided to exclude the coven elements and went with the following basic outline for a completed force:
HQ Archon with court of the archon in raider (thanks to those guys who pointed out I need to take one of each type of court model!) Succubus
Elites Incubi in Venom (possibly with Drazhar if I'm in the mood) Mandrakes (those models are too cool not to have some) Hekatrix Bloodbrides in a raider
Troops 5 Wyches in Venom 5 Warriors in Venom 10 Wyches in Raider 10 Warriors in Raider 10 Warriors in Raider 20 Warriors on foot
Fast attack (definitely my favourite section of the list!) 9 Reavers 10 Scourges 15 Hellions
Heavy Support Razorwing Ravager with dark lances Ravager with disintegrators
I'll upload some images once I've been registered for the requisite period!

| Right, first pics of my tester models, though I've got a few ideas already of how i might refine/tweak them. C&C welcome! Wych [img] [/img] [img] [/img] [img] [/img] Warrior [img] [/img] [img] [/img] [img] [/img] | |

| Welcome
The pictures are dark and makes it hard to tell exactly what you have.
So to be fair I won't comment on them yet.
What helps, and I asume you are taking the pictures inside, is to get as bright a light as possible. I use a pure white light, which has I think 3000 lumens. Anything above 2000 is going to be helpful and not cost a ton of money. make sure it is pure white, not soft white or yellow.
Next thing, is on your camera, go to the exposure setting and increase it to (+) 1 EV. This will really brighten up the picture by over exposing it and allowing more light into the aperture.
The net result of all of this is a better picture to show off your fine work.
I look forward to seeing more of this!

| Hopefully these pictures are a bit clearer, I've also attached a few pics of some of my WIP, only 10 Hellions, a ravager and a razorwing to put together now of my first wave. Links provided to larger versions of each of the pictures, sorry if it's a bit clumsy, I've never posted images on a forum before this one. Comments/criticism/suggestions welcome! WIP pics | |

| Thanks, it's probably the one I'm most proud of since converting isn't an area of great skill of mine. It's the impaler arm from the wych box joined to the scourge solarite's power weapon arm (minus the solarite's hand of course).
Got a hankering to do something similar on my wych raider using the impaler blades and the long polearm from the raider kit to convert one of the passengers.

Hmmm...I'm getting a strong urge to steal this Very cool idea. I've been really leery of doing conversions on these fragile models after my old DE army needed gluing every time that I pulled it out of the case...

| OH those pictures are much better.
I like the color scheme.
I love the jousting reaver as well. That is wicked cool.
Also, the succubus, one of my favorite models. Those hydra guantlets you have on her are SAH' WHEET looking on her. I am going to go out and get another model so I can model up one the same way!
Looking good and hope to see more soon! WOOT.

| Finished putting the second layer on my succubus tonight, pics below. http://postimage.org/image/sas7515gv/ http://postimage.org/image/vvo2o9a0f/ http://postimage.org/image/jv7819rzj/ I'm hoping to get this finished this week, but I'm going to take pics at each layer stage, then I'll get to work on the accompanying squad of wyches. And just in case you'r wondering, the helmet is going to be an Imperial Fist, just finished reading Phalanx so I felt like killing something yellow! | |

| Stage 4 complete, I'm hoping to get the Succubus finished today, couple more layers of highlighting to do and the edge of the base to finish. | Wow, these are like real-time updates! I really like the color scheme that you've used. The only thing that isn't working for me is the white base. The rest of the model uses darker colors, and the white base draws your attention away form the model. I would repaint the base in a darker color and perhaps give the grey base a wash so that the eye is directed back to the beautiful model that you've painted.
Keep it up! | |

| I'll echo ESE and say the jousting Reaver looks ace - very "Fallen Shining Spear". Succubus looks very good, great colour scheme. | |

| Crazy as it sounds, I'd never thought of it like that. Thanks though, that's definitely going to be added into the fluff for them!
@ESE, appreciate your comments about the base, the edge is going to get a wash of asurmen blue like the main part of the base, but I always do my models on ice bases so that when I eventually get round to making that terrain (so much polystyrene in the garage it's untrue) they all look right on it.
Hope to have some updates of my wych raider soon, it's coming on nicely, if a little slower than I'd like (haven't done much freehand stuff before what with my space marine addiction (7 colour schemes on the go at the moment in varying stages of completeness)

| Right, first part of my first troops unit for you to have a look at, as always comment and criticism welcome (and yes, I'll get round to doing the base once I've done my wyches, ditto the sail icon) [img] [/img] [img] [/img] [img] [/img] [img] [/img] Hope you like! ps, I can see now why there's not so much love on the forum for painting raiders - marathon! | First troops choice finished, starting work on a reaver, a hellion and my razorwing now cos I'm not sure exactly what I want to paint next. I'll probably end up doing the reavers. Here's the raider and wyches though, enjoy. [img] [/img] [img] [/img] [img] [/img] C&C welcome | |
