| Forge World launched a new experimental 40k expansion today called Zone Mortalis.
It is essentially a set of rules for playing games in close confined spaces such as space hulks, catacombs, vaults and underhives. It brings in lots of optional and experimental rules for doors and bulkheads, blips, reaction fire, size restrictions etc.
It's been launched to coincide with their terrain - think Space Hulk in 3d and you're pretty much there.
I'm quite excited about it although the price puts me off, a 4x4 table would cost £360....
How do you think Dark Eldar would fair in this? It's not quite aimed at the competitive setting but lack of any real cover, no dedicated transports and cap on squad sizes makes them seem a tad underpowered - throw reaction fire into the mix and it seems a bit meh.
Either way, the idea is nice and I'm looking forward to seeing it flourish.

| Looks like a lot of fun, apart from the price. Just had a quick lokk so far, but I think DE could fair quite well with our massed splinter fire. Trueborn with blasters to force open the AV13 doors would be invaluable, as would multiple splinter cannons.
The Reaction Fire rules seem to suit us very nicely and the limitation on scatter within the confined spaces and the ability to re-roll blast and template weapons would appear to make multi-shredder squads very viable.

| What a price...it seems a little bity..
Is it Blanche art on the wall of this Imperial building? Or just freehand on a flat surface?
Reavers will do really well in those rule set. They must roll for dangerous terrain for every difficult terrain but have skiller rider, they can really go throu entire building during their turboboost movement and chop some heads while doing so, can reliably destroy any door with heat lance.
They also can use move-shoot-move rule of Eldar Jetbikes to fire and hide behind corner.
Troops choices would be naturally wracks, rules are favorable for template weapons.
Oh great, you cant choose Reavers...thats a shame.

| Actually it appears that someone took scan of J.B. work and printed it on paper, like miniature poster. You can see bent corner of paper.
I'm thrilled about rules tho. At first glance they seems... like FW actually played that game several times.

??? Where are you seeing that? As far as I can tell (albeit from a skim) they're perfectly allowed as they are a FA slot choice which you can take, and they're not on the list of forbidden models (page 4 is where my info is coming from) - Local_Ork wrote:

They're based off the Badab War boarding action stuff - they said they modified them off feedback from players. Also known as - smart.

| Thanks Thor, I don't pay too much attention on FW rules since they *REALLY* want sell models yet they have worse authors than Cruddace (either massive fail or mega WAAC). | |

Oh, i got glitched a little, suddenly decided that mandatory slots are only ones that allowed. Reavers it is then, perfectly fine for that game. But i somehow doubt i will ever play one, if only i manage to convince friends to buy/construct that many terrain.

| The reactionary fire rule kinda screws us over, but it's optional (imo they should rework it into an opposed initiative test, where if the defender wins, he gets to shoot at the assaulting unit. Would allow fast and fragile units like genestealers and wyches a chanse to get into combat). Other than that, it seems like fun. We wouldn't be as good as, say, a full terminator army, as we lack heavy armour and with not vehicles loose the benefit of speed. On the other hand, the limited ranges due to winding corridors would help us get close to enemy without getting shot, and haywire grenades and liquifier guns are extremely effective. However, I feel that ultimately this is mostly for fun and cool scenarior, rather than competive play. I'm totally going to borrow my friend's Space Hulk board and have some boarding action between Dark Eldar and IG (counts-as Imperial Navy armsmen). | |

| Harlies and Haems, yeah - I don't see much advantage to WWP, unless you're serious about trying to seal off pathways. | |
