| As you may notice with my post in http://www.thedarkcity.net/t7012-for-sale-ash-waste-ig-starter-army-900-points, I have been looking at my model cupboard and decided to downscale my Imperial Guard collection.
The thing is that I have decided to go full out on my irregular Necromundan ash waste nomads, in a fluff fashion I also hope will be fun to play and mildly competitive - although I am dreading that last hope to be unfounded...
I stared at a heap of old metal cadian and steel legion infantry for sale, and the beautiful new chaos cultists, and decided "why the hell not".
I just cannot get myself to part with my 6 strong sentinel force (which I totally adore!) and thus will convert them to assist my light ash waste guerrilla warband.
The plan goes somewhat like this:
- I put down an HQ and a regular IG platoon behind an aegis line (ash waste rubble lines) in my deployment zone, added with the mortar, lascannon and autocannon teams I still have at my disposal. Their job is to lay low, remain stationary and blast away, acting as primary target to the enemy. For extra stealth I might replace their stats to become veterans, ditch the platoon HQ and give company HQ and the three (now veteran) infantry squads camo cloaks, for fluff value as well as a +1 to cover safe. But that tends to make the whole more expensive. I'll just keep the option open in my army list.
- My own version of Al'Rahem will lead a second infantry platoon outflanking from reserves. I add an astropath (ratskin shaman in telepathic communication with another ratskin model) to my company HQ to make sure I can decide where this second platoon will enter the board.
- To ensure the link-up between these two platoons, I have 2 squads of three fire support scout sentinels (one multilaser, one mixed autocannon and lascannon) and a squad of 10 rough riders (the rusty bikers from above) for a full three fast attack options. Just because I like the idea and I have found the ideal material for it, I am thinking of giving the six sentinels camo netting for an extra cover save, however that's 60 points which might be too expensive point wise. Also I am considering Mogul Kamir as the rough rider commander (a heavily converted psycho on a big quad with scythes) but I am also undecided whether I won't need those 40 points elsewhere.
- Just because I cannot part with the 25-year-old non-GW models in carapace armour, I'll keep and paint up my 8 storm troopers as a wild card, however I doubt they will see action much. Their special missions might however be a good thing to support the sentinels and keep them alive longer. I am also considering whether some agents like a priest might be valid, and I will keep my ash waste commissar.
So there it is: I will be doubling my ash waste nomad force and selling my regular IG force. Now I hope possible opponents (and GW salesmen...) won't mind the hodge podge character of the whole, as I tend to use models from all over the place whenever I like them, even if GW wasn't the company that designed them (part of the reason I am getting put off by GW in general).
Any comments? Can I possibly win with such an army, for instance?

| OK I have finalized a 1500 points ash waste nomad guerrilla infantry army list. My leftover IG troops are still FOR SALE here: http://www.thedarkcity.net/t7012-for-sale-ash-waste-ig-starter-army-900-points - Quote :
- HQ
- warlord with power weapon and camo cloak - 4 veteran snipers with camo cloaks - astropath with camo cloak (ratskin shaman)
These veteran nomads coordinate the assault out of the shadows
TROOPS
- warchief & 4 nomads - combined squad of 30 nomads with 3 grenade launchers and 3 heavy bolters and a commissar - 3 mortars - 6 autocannons - aegis defense lines
This defensive infantry formation is dug in deeply and blasts away with their anti-infantry weaponry. The heavy weapon teams select their own targets.
TROOPS
- warchief (Al'Rahem) and 3 meltagunners (and a fluffy ratskin) - combined squad of 30 nomads with a commissar
This outflanking infantry platoon strikes from unexpected positions
ELITES
- storm trooper chief and 4 storm troopers
Acting as a diversion and a wild card, this squad of veteran nomad storm troopers has its own agenda
FAST ATTACK
- 3 multilaser scout sentinels with camo netting - 2 autocannon and 1 lascannon scout sentinel with camo netting (one with HK missile)
These six scout sentinels search for a prime defensive location to fire their long ranged weapons at enemy infantry and light vehicles
FAST ATTACK
- rough rider chief, 2 rough rider meltagunners and 7 rough riders
Riding rusty bikes, these rough riders are a tactical anti-tank reserve
