| nightshields arent there to negate shots anymore (like they were before) they are now there to draw the enemy scary close to do any significant damage with rapid fire/melta weapons. Heck, even Assualt Cannons and stuff with 24" have to get closer than usual, which means closer to our haywire wyches. | |

| Do note that since rapid fire's "double tap" range has gone from 12" to "half maximum range," Night Shields will prove slightly less effective against them. Normal 24" rapid fire weapons will be able to shoot twice out to 9" against Night Shield-equipped vehicles instead of only 6". Not a big difference, and pre-measuring means we can ensure they are unable to get into range, but it does reduce our flexibility slightly. | |

did you mean reduce their range on their weapons? because thats wrong. it reduces the distance between you and your opponent. otherwise SM could still Rapid fire at 12". as their max range would only be reduced to 18" Sorry, you are wrong, see: http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2170008a_Dark_Eldar_FAQ_Version_1_2_January_2012.pdf The errata on Night Shields clearly states: "reducing the range of the weapons of enemy units". So taking your example I understand SM shoot at 24"? Well that'll indeed be reduced to 18", which means if I recall correctly that Rapid Fire occurs at 18" / 2 = 9". Your flaw was that you did 24"/ 2 = 12".

| Working on an army list revision after reading the rulebook and having seen the FAQ and looks like I'll be dropping all my Flickerfields.
For me it's the fact that cover for vehicles is so much easier to attain now so if you don't get the first turn you should have cover and that jink stacks with nightfighting too. That 70 or so points will pay for a lot more for me.

| Flickrs are for flyers now. No need to evade. Shame that are in the cost of the venom really... | |

| Eh, venoms are worth their cost even if they where 55 without the flicker field, think of it as added protection in case of assaults. | |

| it also could be added for extra protection against it being only HP2, so even in combat it gets something special. | |

Sadly, this appears to be true. Night Shields reduce the range of enemy weapons, they don't increase the distance between those weapons and their target. We can still sit at >24" and fire away quite happily whilst benefitting from a very nice cover save but the enemy will still be able to return fire.

Indeed. i seriously do not understand it. but then again, it affects rapid fire weapons, as they dubble tap at half range, not at 12". That means, that 18"/2=9". and melda gets it's second die at 3".
