| Ok guys bear with me on this; I just got the new CSM codex and there is a lot of fun toys I want to try out. So I've cooked up a list which teams us up with one of our most hated enemies.....cause GW says it's ok It's a dual force org list, and I will be allying with CSM 2 separate times on each force org chart, in an attempt to make this easier to read I will list off both force org's separate. Force Org 1- Succubus w/ Hydra Gauntlet 6 Bloodbrides w/ Syren/VB/2 HG's Raider 5 Wyches w/ Hekatrix/HWG/VB/HG Venom 5 Wyches w/ Hekatrix/HWG/VB/HG Venom Allies- Chaos Sorc lvl2 CSM Squad(5 man) w/ Meltagun/ mark of nurgle Rhino w/ Dirge Caster CSM Squad(5 man) w/ meltagun/ mark of nurgle Rhino w/ Dirge Caster Havoc Squad(5 man)w/ 4x Missile Launcher(fllakk/krak/frag) Rhino w/ Dirge Caster Force Org 2- Duke Sliscus 5 Wyches w/ Hekatrix/HWG/VB/HG Venom 5 Wyches w/Hekatrix/HWG/VB/HG Venom Allies- Chaos Sorc lvl2 CSM Squad(5 man) w/ meltagun/ mark of nurgle Rhino w/ Dirge Caster CSM Squad(5 man) w/ meltagun/ mark of nurgle Rhino w/ Dirge Caster Now a lot of you probably noticed dirge casters on every single Rhino in my allied forces; thats cause they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. For those of you who haven't read the CSM codex; it's a vehicle upgrade that prevents enemy units within 6" of the vehicle from overwatching. This eliminates one of the biggest headaches for our girls in 6th ed. You might of also noticed that the Havoc squad, which is to say the CSM version of a Devi squad, can take flakk missiles and I made sure to throw some in there. Never hurts to have anti flyer these days. So basic strategy is to slap Slilcus in the bloodbride unit to make it my elite killer. Charge forward with the marines since they cannot claim objectives beings they are a desperate ally, maneuver so my DE stay 6" away from them while putting the Dirge Casters on the other side of units I want to charge. HG's allow me to maximize my # of atk's which will help beings my squads are so small. Meltas across the board for AT and HWG's on all the Wych units for backup AT. While I am giving up a lot of # to take the allies I think i'll be fine as long as I strategically go about my charges, plus having 20 T5 marines running around can't hurt can it? So what do you guys think? I'm sure a lot of you will say it's not very competitive and I am inclined to agree, but I am curious to see how much an effect the dirge casters have on things. It will also be a fun change of pace to bring my wyches back, people don't really want to play my shooty DE anymore Comments/suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

| I suspect your opponents will try to ignore the CSM as much as possible and try to wipe out your DE instead, which wouldn't take too much effort as they are all very fragile units. After that, they only have to mop up the CSM.
If I was taking CSM allies I'd be tempted by a Lord as they can be true combat monsters from what I'm hearing. Not got the codex yet though so not sure how true that is.

| Nice thinking outside the box with the dirge casters. Not sure it's worth it though, my wyches almost always have a 3-4+ cover save when charging or another unit has tanked the overwatch for them, so I have not had any problem with overwatch, the only thing that really bothers me on overwatch are flamers. As for the havocs with skyfire missiles, a waste of points if you ask me. Four Missile launchers with skyfire get you an average of 2.6 S7 hits against flyers. Four Autocannons are half the price and get you an average of 1.33 S7 hits against flyers. At the end of the day S7 is not great against flyers. Still looking forward to see how it plays out for you. | |

| Adhemar- Agreed; as I said I will have to basically force the CSM's down their throat to give my DE some time, and if I don't get the first turn I can always DS stuff in lol. Lords are very good; but I took the sorc in this case cause they are cheaper.
Mushkila- Thnx; yea the DE units are small I agree and I does seem like it might be going through a lot for something as small as overwatch, as I said Im waiting to see how it plays out. I see what you mean on the Havocs and maybe it might do me well to drop them for something else, maybe drop some mutilators in their face? lol. I have been waiting months for flakk missiles though, I at least wanna give em a shot =) but they will likely be one of the first things I cut.

That's the right attitude to have! You never know, some of the oddest choices can work wonders, always worth trying things out.

| Do Havocs pay extra for Flakk or is it included in the price? | |

| Mushkilla- I could drop the Missiles down to Autocannon's and make my sorc's lvl 3....that way I know they will not ignore 2 lvl 3 chaos sorc's running around, 2 puppet masters per turn can get annoying real fast lol.
Adhemar- You buy the ML and than pay extra points for the flakk missiles

| I have been thinking about the addition of CSM as allies in a fast aggressive DE army.
Aside from the fact that i really really want a black mace chaos killy lord(SAURON anyone?), the problem is the troop delivery system not being able to keep up with the DE pressure.
With 1 hq and 1 troop compulsory with the possibility of HS or Elite, you need to get the most out of those troops.
I don't really want to get terminators that deep strike as then the troops are just twiddling their thumbs in the backfield causing 0 threat, ideally i want the chaos lord with the troops and i need to get them as fast as i can to the enemy line so that they are a threat consistent with the rest of my army turn 2 action.
A flying daemon prince is a super fast threat that could also be cool.
A far forward 3 plasma cannon forgefiend is also a nice threat that will need to be taken down and would be really cool to boot.
This may all be too many points that take away from the rest of my army. But its still fun to consider.

Just run a minimum troops, so either 5 marines (75pts) or 10 cultists (50pts), use them as a screen or something. Then spend the rest of your points on something that can actually get to your opponent before the rest of your DE do. Chaos Lord with some bikers sounds about right.

Hmm some objective holders is something i do lack. Maybe i will have to playtest some bikers or terminators and see how they mesh with the rest of my army.

| the problem is they are desperate allies, meaning your allied troops cant score. Your just taking them for being cheap | |

This is why I think a really hurty unit might be nice as an ally for us. Let them go in and clear out anything holding an objective in time for our gilrs and boys to arrive towards the end and take the objective.
