PostSubject: Getting out of the mold : Various test lists   Getting out of the mold : Various test lists I_icon_minitimeWed Nov 28 2012, 21:39

Hi to all,

I haven't played 40k since about 5 months ago because I'm abroad. I am going back home soon and really looking forward to get back on the battlefield.

This post is a place I will use to post different army list that I think are a bit outside of your normal list. I like to be competitive usually, but I also like to screw around with units and such. So do not be afraid to take a list in a corner and beat it down if it seems bad to you for any reason. Hopefully I eventually can get a competitive list out that doesnt involve getting as close as possible to a net list. I haven't seen the use of allies outside of Eldar a lot so it will probably be one tactic I use to get away from the usual lists.

I will test all the lists to some extents as soon as I am back in a couple of weeks and will be posting feedback on how well they perform.

The first army list involves Space Wolves, wich I have been playing quite a long time, they were my first army and it got me the idea of doing a mixed force. Sure they are not good allies and as desperate allies they don't get all the shinny perks of rule mixing, but I think they can give a good support for each other. The idea of the alliance is based on the ennemy I am fighting being at the wrong place, wrong time, being caught in a battle with the wolves when this DE raid hits.

Lets look at the list :

Wrong place, wrong time - 1500 pts

HQ

2X Haemonculus /w Webway Portal - 170 pts

Rune priest /w TDA, combi-melta, power depending on the army you play, but I like JotWW / Living Lightning - 125 pts

Troops

Warriors X20 /w 2 Splinter Cannon - 200 pts

Warriors X20 /w 2 Splinter Cannon - 200 pts

Wracks X3 /w Venom 2 Splinter Cannon - 95 pts

Wracks X3 /w Venom 2 Splinter Cannon - 95 pts

Grey Hunters X 10 /w 2 melta-gun, Mark of the Wolfen wolf standard, drop pod - 215 pts

Elite

Wolf scouts X5 /w melta-gun - 85 pts

Heavy support

Ravager - 105 pts

Ravager - 105 pts

Ravager - 105 pts

How this list work is the 2 venom starts loaded with 1 haemonculus each + the wracks, their goal is to deliver the webway portal mid field for turn 2 reserves. I use 2 portal droper in case 1 gets down and if none do, better choice for reserve arrival. Ravagers also start on the field to draw fire away from the venoms.

The goal of the space wolves is to arrive on the backline, that way hopefully I wont get any models too close to my DEs. The Rune Priest joins the wolf scouts and get outflank, arriving behind the ennemy line with some nice psychic powers, great psycher control, TDA and good tank busting ability with back field melta. The grey hunter arrive in the same vicinity probably with 2 melta and a good potential for being dangerous if you charge them.

Meanwhile, the goal of the warrior is to get out of the portal, join with with the haemonculi for the pain token and get somewhere into cover to hold mid field / advance to rapid fire. Wracks get the backfield objective control duty. The use of the space wolves is there to divert attention from the more fragile force and get some str 8 melta goodness in the rear/back armor for the splinter rifle to deliver the pain in what is inside. Ravagers do what Ravagers do usually.

The list exists at 1850 pts, but its just a boosted version, I think it is stronger at 1500 pts with this loadout.

Another use of the Space Wolves could be to deliver them in the same manner, but with a shooty venom spam army, that way they have to keep some forces backfield and some agression is diverted from your DE fragile force.

So, let me know what you think.
