smash attack claification

Hi all I just wanted to clarify the Smash attack as our Talos have it due to being a monstrous creature, So every attack it has ,for example you roll a 6 plus its one for charging so 7 attacks are AP 2? so an unsaved wound at AP2 would outright kill a marine correct? or you can do a "Smash" attack so for the above example you would halve the number of attacks but hit at S10? so 7 becomes... (do you round up or down?) and if your MC is attacking a vehicle it can re-roll amour pens? Have I got all that right?

You devide by two, round up, and then you add the attack for charging.

So say your talos charged and you rolled a 3 for attacks and decided to smash. You would get 3/2 = 2 + 1(for charging) = 3 smash attacks.

does thanks, I noticed this went into some detail about a talos in a post further down, I should search a tad more before asking I guess. So Talos cant come through the WWP? is that in FAQs? didn't notice it in the rules, bummer hey

They can come through the WWP but they, or any other unit, cannot assault on the turn they arrive which makes it a bit trickier to use well.

Not that anyone would ever want to be within assault range of a webway portal last editon especially if it had talos in it. Ironically not being able to assault out of portals tends to make your opponent a lot bolder, this often leads to his units being with liquifier range when the talos do come out of the portal. Fun times.

So the Talos stops anything else coming out of the WWP not be able to assault as it comes through? because normally units can cant they?

No, 6th edition introduced the bizarre rule that no models can assault on the turn they arrive from reserve, regardless of whether that is by Deep Striking, WWP or simply walking onto the board.

Don't forget you can also add +1 for extra weapon (if you are so inclined) which would be after halving so on the same example a roll of 3 = 2 + 1 for charge + 1 for extra weapon.

Actually I would argue that the bonus for a second CCW is to be added before halving the attacks for the Taloooos Smash! thing. But that's just a gut feeling.

They FAQed smash saying you add modifers after you half. So Mush and Seshiru have it right

Yep, it only halves your base attacks.

I used this tonight to take out a Warboss and his Unit in one Assault Round.

Worked beautifully!

Don't forget Hammer of Wrath at Init 7 Str. 10 too!

So a hammer of wrath is a bonus attack so a talos could, if you rolled a 6 have 6+1 for charging +1 if you didnt give him a liqufier gun so a possible 8 attacks one being S10 or halve it and all hit at S10 with the smash rule? But you would only use a S10 hit against a vehicle wouldn't you as the Tal's S7 wounds on a 2+ anyway against S4 for example. Is that all correct?

Hammer of Wrath is at Init 10 with Unmodified Str of 7, No AP.

Max Roll of 6 /2 = 3 +1 +1 from extra CCW = 5 at Str. 10 AP2.

Oh right oops! but would you only use the smash S10 attack against a vehicle or an extremely tough opponent?

It is required to insta gib a Toughness 5.

So what happens when you roll a 1 for attacks? Can you halve that to 0.5 then round up for 1 smash attack? This question actually came up in the last game I played. We agreed to not allow it. Did we make the right call?

If you roll a 1 for attacks you can round it up to 1 smash attack. What is even better is if you charged you would get 2 smash attacks, 1/2= 1 +1 = 2 as you add the extra attack after halving your attacks. Basically if you roll a 1 for your attacks you should always smash attack!

It did sound a bit "gamey". Glad to hear that we can always ... TALOS SMASH!!!

That is also why the additionnal CCW is pretty good IMO, even if you roll 1, you have 1/2+1+1 = 3 attacks at S10
