Rapid Fire vs Night Shield

Weapon range is 24"
Rapid fire - at half range shoot twice
Night shield reduces the range of the weapon by 6"

Does it go:

(24" / 2) - 6" = 6"

or

(24" - 6") / 2 = 9"

Definitely the second option. You're reducing weapon range and not rapid fire weapon range (well that also but as consequence and not directly).
