Decisions Decions 1850 point list

Being new to 40k I've been piece mailing an army together, and while I have a functional army, it certainly wasn't thought through. So this is me trying to think it through. And if the community could, I'd like some pointers. Now I want to be competitive insomuch as I want to win games occasionally, I'm not necessarily looking to dominate tournaments here.

That's just at 1849 points.

So thats 60 splinter weapons and 16 darklight weapons. After looking at the list do you guys think it would be better to drop a squad of hellions, and add another Voidraven, then upgrade all those shredders to blasters? That would be 50 splinter weapons, and 21 dark light weapons.

Blasters are going to be better then shredders for sure.

Shredders aren't that bad. I was basically using them to fit in more units. I mean they wound marines on a 2+. Manage to not scatter the shot and you're bound to kill one to two in a unit. It always seemed more appropriate to throw a shredder on my warrior units since they're so AI oriented anyway. Sure the range sucks worse than the blaster but if you're 12" away from the enemy then you get to use rapid fire on your rifles. And while a blaster will kill an infantry model pretty handily, if you aim it at a vehicle all your splinter shots are wasted. I think a shredder can damage vehicles up to AV 12 can't it?
