GW Plastic Glue Bond Empty
PostSubject: GW Plastic Glue Bond   GW Plastic Glue Bond I_icon_minitimeTue Oct 15 2013, 18:55

I need a way to break the bond on my vehicles and maybe my infantry. I was being impatient about using my stuff as quick as possible, but I wish to redo the mistakes (such as gaps or something got glued that I wanted to not be glued) before I start my painting. It will also make it easier for me to paint without all the extra stuff on such as the trophy poles and sails. Also, trying to take the shock prows off my ravagers. I used GW plastic glue so I am sure I could break it easily, but I am trying to avoid breaking the model.

I am not sure if anyone else was stupid enough to do this, but I would appreciate the input from you more veteran hobbyists

Nail polish remover usually works, even the acetone free ones. Try applying it in the right spots using an OLD paintbrush or something of sorts.

I don't use GW brand glues, but is it a real plastic glue? Because real plastic glue actually chemically melts the plastic it is applied to and fuses it - so functionally what was two pieces of plastic become one piece.

Superglue just forms a bond that adheres them, and will be much easier to separate.

If you used plastic glue I sort of suspect the only real solution is a razor and some patience.

Also, according to a bit of Google-fu, on plastic models, be *extremely careful* with acetone nail polish, because that will damage plastic. It is suggested to use acetone free glue for cleaning purposes - and it appears to work well with super glue, but no real commentary on plastic glue.

Like Thor said, real plastic glue melts and fuses the plastics together. I don't think GW glue does that, not even their plastic glues. Not what I've experienced so far, since my stuff usually falls apart. Also nail polish can ruin the details of the plastic. Consider using Dettol or something similiar, usually used for removing paint from models. When i strip some models from paint, even super glue loosens up and breaks up. But the plastic detail remains. I use Yes! though, not Dettol.
