Even Overwatch tells us what's coming and then posts the changes to the beta servers weeks or months before release. Why not do this with 40k?

| It's quite embarassing how emotional I'm getting over a book about toy soldiers. I was quite happy until yesterday and now I'm borderline depressed! | |

| Look at it this way... Necrons WILL get a new HQ model... If they are the first of the 3... Tau and DE might actually also get a new model | |

Bannerlord anyone ? Haha now that's the absolute worst when it comes to teased games that are taking forever to come out. I don't see Tau or us getting any new models, they would have probably been announced alongside the new Necron one if that was the case. Plus also consider that a lot of codexes that have come out haven't got new models, including codexes that could probably use a few new ones and it just seems very unlikely to me. I'll keep hoping that DE are next even though it seems there's no solid evidence to support that, but not gonna count on us getting any models till I see it happening. Either way, tomorrow they make their next week's preorders announcement, and I'm almost certain it has to be a 40k release after two weeks of AoS/Necromunda/Shadespire, so just a day from now and all the guessing will be over...

| Guys, the later we are the better in the long run. It should theoretically mean we are the most play tested and well thought out. I can dream at least. | |

I think all tests are already done. GW just don`t want to release to many things in a short period of time.

| Im quite certain we will be the 3rd one released i have been sayin it from day one... Having said this and although i dont trust BOLS, i cant dany the fact that they have been releasing alot of articles regarding drukhari the last few weeks (there is one just now about the origin of the Drukhari) compared to total silence regarding Necrons and even more Tau... I dont know if they have inside info or whatever but this could mean something... Anyway yeah tomorrow we will know for sure | |

And it does stand to reason that the Rep from GW saying they never confirmed who the first one they will release between Tau, DE, and Necrons...that isn't the same as saying it isn't DE. I just don't like that a couple days before they will announce the next codex they pull that out of their hat.

| They haven't suddenly pulled it out of their hat. They have consistently said, from the very first post about the three codexes, that they have not specified a release order. You may have suddenly noticed them say it, but they have been saying it since the announcement at the LVO. | |

| Clearly ours was meant to be first, but it took them so long to cram in all the new characters, rules and wargear that it just had to be delayed. - TeenageAngst wrote:

My guess would be that it's a holdover from the old GW, which seemed to view its customers as enemies to be overcome. And you don't share your invasion schedule with the enemy.

My guess is it's a business tactic. An air of mystery does well to generate hype, one look at this forum in the past two weeks demonstrates that well. Do you think we'd be talking about offhand remarks at LVO, BOLS article metrics, and singular Facebook comments if we knew our release date back in June? It's all an effort to generate excitement, increase visibility, and hopefully bolster sales. Say what you will about it, but I'd certainly think it's working.

| Which is not a good marketing tactic. Especially not for a boutique game that requires thousands of dollars and hours to invest. Announce a damned schedule with the previews.
I think we would be planning our finances accordingly and dusting off the old models in preparation if they didn't pull this crap. Sort of like how I was last week, now, I could care less when we get our book because I am refocusing on my guard since I know what I need.
It's an absolute idiotic marketing strategy for a game such as this. No one impulse buys a thousand dollars worth of model kits that will take them years to assemble. This isn't some DLC for a video game I can play 15 minutes after I impulse bought it.

| No one knows when the books are coming or what the order is. For some reason GW has decided that they can't release products for both sigmar and 40k at the same time | |

| The downside of hype is that if the results fall short of the expectations, usually unrealistic by the time of release, then it ends up looking bad for the company. See:

Say what you will about it, but I'd certainly think it's working. You know what might work even better? Having some good rules to show off. Hell, if GW released screenshots of our HQs' dataslates with all their rules blanked out except for a line reading "may purchase Wings for Xpts or a Skyboard for Ypts", that alone would probably have about 90% of DE players camping outside their stores to purchase the new codex on the day of release. On the other hand, when GW reveals little or nothing about a codex, it just makes me think they're trying to hide how bloody awful it is.

| Ok, I'm going to stop paying attention to this now, until somebody tells me there's actually something to pay attention to.
I'm a small sample size, but I feel like "good marketing" shouldn't leave me with the realization that I have better things to do with my time.

Say what you will about it, but I'd certainly think it's working. Wanna bet how many Tau, Necron and DE models have been sold since the announcement at LVO? I'm guessing at roughly zero, as everyone is in "Wait for the codex" mode. That was the whole reason that GW used to shroud everything in secrecy. Sales tank when people are expecting new rules/models.

| We're well past T-Sons, the problem is the last two weeks have just been random releases of a necromunda band, that AoS skirmish game and now this week apparently new start collecting boxes for AoS need a whole week of preorders all to themselves...enough of the non 40k stuff, even if our codex isn't first out of the three xenoes codexes I want one of them to be next on the preorder schedule so that we're one week closer to our codex! | |
