| Great guide, really informative!. Any chance you could do Grey Knights next?. I am taking part in a tournie soon and as these are the new guys on the block it would be great for some insight on how to defeat them! Cheers | |

| I was gunna suggest GK as next as well as they are the new flavour of the month and most likly to be the army we face the most over the next few months. After them I would do BA, SW, and IG (in that order) | |

| Except BA and SW are not really problem armies , IF it were me doing it I would go for IG or GK next , I think GK is a horrid army to face with DE, halberds psycannon spam etc ...
Always nice to get another competent players insights on how to handle tough armies.

| While not the most difficult for us they are on the top of the meta and ones we are most like to see. | |

| By that argument they are the ones you are getting most practice against , so you need the advice in place of experience with the less common armies on the off chance you come up against one unprepared ? | |

| Grey Knights would be the most difficult for me as I haven't played them before (only briefly as Daemonhunters but that wasn't against Dark Eldar!). The concern is that as I am dipping my foot back in the tournament scene, and them being the "new" toys to play with at the mo, that I make foolish mistakes (well maybe more than usual ) so at least having a chance would be a good thing. Unless you can't get in much practice or your LGS meta is different than your GT meta. If I was in that situation I would love to be able to read Hash's posts so I'm not going in blind. | |

| IG are next. I'm still super busy writing for my actual job, so it's going to be a little bit, but I'll do it justice.
GK will come somewhere later. True to form, they're a real tough army now that their codex has been updated. We've got some advantages, though.

| Well disappointed that it isn't GK but looking forward to your insight as usual!. Keep up the good work these really do help especially if you haven't played with DE before. Cheers | |

If BA are not a problem army for you what kind of lists are you facing? Here is a typical BA 1750 list round my area. Mephiston 3 Priests 5 assault marines, Las/plas Razorback X 5 5 Devastators, 4 ML's X 3 Basic idea is 1 priest provides a FnP bubble to 3 dev squads, whilst the R/back wall advances with Mephiston hiding behind it. Very tough to bring down. FnP on the devs equates to roughly 3 kills per 60 splinter shots. Meanwhile your dark light weapons are trying to bring down the wall of R/backs, or do you ignore the R/backs to try and take down the devs who will be in cover anyway to deny easy kills.

| It annoys me that there is this focus on 'lists' all my lists will tend to contain a good balance of usable tools.
I can't be assed to run the maths but I'm assuming thats at least 1750 with so much sunk into HQ , actually tbh that looks like a gimmik list.
Mephiston is the work of moments to be rid of , 5 razorbacks aint stretching anyones AT, you need 8+ hulls and ideally av 12 for that, lances cope ok with AV 11 , 5 man squads are not that difficult to kill even with FNP, I regularly torrent away Plague marines with my DE, again devvies can be dealt with.
I would have to show you how to beat them with my lists, because positioning, distance and timing are a huge factor in how you successfully run DE,
As you seem keen on lists, heres a WIP one I'm playing around with/tuning ATM
Had to edit out image because it contained individual point costs - Baron Tordeck

| Blood Angels have a few problems for us, true. The biggest weakness of Devastators is that they're usually overpowering one target against us. Long Fangs are scary because 3 Heavy Support choices can engage 6 targets. That's bad. Devastators can only engage 3. Not as big a deal, especially when we suppress their other AT options. | |

| I'm really looking forward to the Codex Space Marine article. I'm surprised they haven't been covered already, considering their eternal popularity and sheer number of list variations they have.
Anyway, the list so far is awesome and really useful.
Thanks, Hashmal!

| @Hashmal
Can I make a request? Do the Grey Knights one. I am currently scratching my head on the GKs. Psyflemen spam is just totally broken.

| I will be looking forward to the Sisters of Battle analysis, as I play both DE and SoB, and there is another DE player in the area. I think it would make an interesting match up. By the way, will you be doing the Witchhunters Codex or the WD What the heck were they thinking it's not worth the effort Codex? (The above statement has a very subtle clue as to which Codex I prefer. ) FYI: I've been playing DE since they came out in 3rd ed., and am really happy that we now have a Codex that causes people to go 'DE! OMG!', rather than the old 'DE. How amusing.' | |

| Ah yes, chaos daemons. I play against them. a lot. And they're fielded by a rather smart player. Their shooting is, to put it in a word... disgusting. more disgusting than ours. and their seekers? oh god they're scary. I don't fear daemons much, but I definitely fear the seekers.
So if i see them hit the table, I will make them THE highest priority because they pose the highest threat outside of a bloodthirster. and the guy has both.

| Please be aware of the dates on some of the posts/threads. While they may not all grow stale or necessarily involve threadomancy, in this case Hashmal hasn't been active in quite a while. | |

| Which is fairly sad to hear, I was really interested in his work too :<
The army lists that he did go over, were all the ones my friend uses, save for the necrons. Also I ran into the issue with the Autarch's master strategist not being able to subtract from the dice roll and only add to it, unless theres some ruling outside of the codex that says otherwise [i have checked around to no avail].
Suppose all I can do now is hope he returns and continues to work on the topic.
