In one of the Path books, yes, it is. Perfect place for a holiday. The Archon with the crossed arms looks very much like the Dark Elf Corsair Champions crossed arm pose.

At the beginning of each DE turn, for each non-vehicle DE unit in play, roll 2d6 and add the square of the current turn number, add 1 for eache enemy unit removed as a casualty, then subtract 1 for each DE unit removed as a casualty. Turn to the corresponding page, roll 2d6, and consult the Power from Pain Random Table on that page. This will give you the effect of your pain for that unit this turn. But, if the original sum resulted in either '0' or a negative number, you haven't inflicted enough pain and your units begin to starve - suffering 2d6 S6 AP2 hits (these can affect units that are inside vehicles or engaged in combat).

At the beginning of each DE turn, for each non-vehicle DE unit in play, roll 2d6 and add the square of the current turn number, ..... We have different sources... My guy informed me: Turn 1: all DE units have +1 Ballistic Skill (starts at 3, so back up to 4 which is what we have now) Turn 2: All DE units except vehicles, wracks, grots, Haemis, Talos and Chronos gain the fleet special rule turn 3: All DE units gain the poision (4+) special rule to all splinter weapons. turn 4: All Wych units may now roll on the "combat drug" chart Turn 5: Beastpacks gain the "Beast" special rule, and may now move 12". Turn 6: Mandrakes now gain baleblast Turn 7: there will never be a turn 7, as your army will be tabled by this point.

| Clearly both of the above posts are inaccurate as they both contain rules that can be followed from start to end without coming across a contradiction, error or insoluble conflict of RAI v RAW.
On the other hand, they are both truly awful rules that completely knacker the DE army and go against the whole concept of the race. So they could be accurate...

| Hmmm... Pardon me, but why are some people saying that our current dex was very well written and considered by some as one of the best dexes ever overall (fluff and rules) and other people say that it is normal for us to have contradictory, unclear and otherwise awful rules...? | |

My comment was not really aimed specifically at our codex but at Games (not rules) Workshop's absolute inability to write a decent ruleset even if their lives depended on it.

Well, I believe the 'awful rules' aspect is more to do with GW's general tendencies. Honestly, I think there's some contention about whether our book was well-written (at least in terms of rules). Whilst we didn't have much in the way of contradictory/unclear rules, we had a lot of weapons, items and abilities that just seem poorly-designed and/or badly costed. Dark Lances (and Blasters) weren't worth their excessive cost even in 5th, and our lack of any other ranged anti-tank has hurt us a lot in more recent editions. Our meltas are worse than marine meltas (but more expensive) because... reasons. We have several melee weapons that are about as effective as breaking wind at our opponents (and, that was back when they were AP2). About 90% of our Arcane Artefacts are terrible. Plus various units cost far too much (Hellions, Scourges etc.). From a fluff standpoint it was well written. The rules were likewise well-written (in that they were generally clear and understandable), but many just weren't (and aren't) very good.

| And my comment was not aimed at you, Count, you are addressing something different than I am. It really was very general as rules QQing is quite omnipresent on this forum as well as current dex "exaltitude" (not sure if it is a correct english word, but you will get my meaning I think) :-) So I started to wonder...
Anyway I agree that the dex needs tuning. Lets see what happens.

Anyway I agree that the dex needs tuning. Lets see what happens. Probably because the 7th edition hit us quite hard and we are reduced to a "support army" for our Eldar Cousins. I for my part dont expect getting a codex on par with the Eldar codex. And seeing the last Codices I have no high hopes for fancy, fun or useful rules either. Vehicles got stronger, so everybody is in a taxi now making our poison useless. No escape from (torrent/shock/drop) templates kills Wyches and Kabalites without any chance of retailation. Needing to snap shot after jink is a big hit to Venom and Ravager. Night fight got nerfed hard and is only in at 50% of games making our nightsight worse. Melee poison got nerfed as well as FnP. Thats a lot to compensate for and I dont think this is going to happen.

| @Charondyr I respectfully disagree in the weight of negativeness of those changes. 7th is great edition and I am very glad they did it, including Maelstrom missions. And I strongly disagree that it hit us "hard".
Vehicles got stronger - as an army full of lances and HWG, we should definitely not cry about that. And our vehicles got tougher too, which we wanted.
Templates hitting crew in OpenTopped vehicles is truly a whiff and makes us even harder to play. Agree there.
SnapShot after Jink - just a little listbuilding tweak. I started to buy FF and/or NS so I dont have to jink. Wyches vehicles Jink anyway T1 so... The only one who is severely afflicted are Reavers and even those can just go Caltrops-nuts. As I explained in another thread 4+ Jink compared to 5+ invul is not that much better.
Nightfight? Situational. You cant build a strategy around that. So not really relevant.
Melee poison? So one of our units got a little bit worse against MEQ/GEQ? 10 wracks for 100 pts on assault can still kill a 200pts MC in 2 phases, so dont see your point really. We have splinter shots and incubi (one of the best assault units in ALL warhammer) against MEQ and Wracks trash GEQ just fine too.
FnP? Works as badly as before in 6th. I dont feel cheated there comparing 6th to 7th.

You are free to disagree. But as a matter of fact this ARE negative influences (if you consider them major or minor does not really matter at that point) which affect the performance of the army and have not been compensated. The trend is not only for Eldar players to take the Baron to support their already hard hitting army, but also for DE to ally with Eldar to get more stable units.

| Yes, strictly speaking they are negative... but some of the negative influences are about as important for the game as our dex being softcover and thus less durable than the new ones. :-)
However I wholeheartedly agree that I dislike the position of being exploited by eldar just for one special character. Thats why I am glad that he will most probably be gone, hopefully substituted by some others and broader generic characters' selection.
7th was very good for us as a whole. In fact 7th was so great surprise for me that it actually made me stay in 40K and not sell my minis and go for another system. There are only two things that actually hurt us - templates vs. Open-Topped vehicles and Psychic Phase. All the other things you mentioned are either beneficial to us or it is so minor that it really do NOT require any compensation as we can adjust easier than most other armies. Thanks to a friend of mine I learned that before wishing for rules change, I should start adjusting my playstyle and build as there is usually a way to compensate for rules that do not sit well with me. Only very few of them are really detrimental to the point of not having good solution.
As for what we really need - whole PFP concept reworked, not just FNP. We need drugs reworked. We need some FOC slots swapping (RWF to FA). And we need some psychic defence. In short - We need tweaking. Not overhaul. What we could WISH for is more options and better internal and extenal balance in the 7th ruleset. But forgive me... I dont give a damn for Nightfighting or melee poison changes (especially if it hurts Nids more than us). And I say YAY! for vehicle changes. And I will start caring for Jink only if our vehicles will get Skilled Rider. :-)

| New Archon pics. Well - when i saw new Archon plastic kit i was immediately thinking And Modded. Substituted in an alternative version of the same image without the raunchy tagline. Gob.I'l try to make a mix of both from this kit. At least the legs pose are very similiar to the second one. Dont mind the letters )) I see a great potential in a new plastic kit, im already itching to make it. WD poses doesnt quite catch it. Edit. via Archibald_TK A few things I remember from reading the WD: - The Voidraven carry a very massive bomb underbelly (biomechanical looking) that can be put on the model in a secure position or in an "about to be dropped" one. - The rules for the bomb are probably different than before as it manages to wipe out a 10 men IG squad. - The alternate weapons on the Voidraven are the DE variant of the Eldar Wraithguard ones. At first I thought it would be a blast version like the one on the Eldar plane but a single Voidraven managed to wipe out an unit of Scion (10 men if I'm not mistaken) so they may be templates instead. - Multiple kind of missiles are mentioned, I think at least the Implosion one and the Cold/Heat one. - Only 15 IG are still alive at the end of the battle report. | |

| Could it be that Voidraven Bombers appear in squadrons now? In the picture of the next White Dwarf, the one showing the Dark Eldar and Astra Militarum armies for the battle report, the left-hand text snippet says something like "Voidraven Bombers Rain of xyz, xyzwind and Voidbreaker". In contrast, it says "5 Wracks in Venom" twice, instead of "Wrack squads Super Pain and Hyper Suffering" or whatever. Also, the little blurb on the top right-hand page says "[...] conveying his orders to the squadron".
What do you think? | |
