Damn. Well i guess ill be picking up the kabalites first since the started set is such a deal. 55 to 65 usd for all that is worth it

Start Collecting is £50.00 in the UK & the contents are £78.50 on GW website seperately.

But, I can already find it for £37.50 online!!

I am new to the forum so not sure on the rules regards posting links to other sites but I can tell you the store is in central London, which should be enough for you to find it yourself. They aren't releasing the set until 25th June though.

Ahh im in the States anyways. Its not worth it to save five bucks when ill be paying 15 more in shipping. Thanks though

Not necessarily. We might get another (better) Archon in the form of a special character. The rest doesn't really need an update anyway.

Yes but the price given by Rewind was in £ (GBP) not Euros.

I actually got to take an "inofficial pre-release" look at both the new formations' rules today at the store:

Dark Eldar
On each of his turns, the controling Pplayer can nominate a unit the Archon from this formation can draw a line of sight to. For the duration of this turn, the Kabalite Warriors from this formation have Prefered Enemy against that unit.

... meh?


Craftworld Eldar
On each of his turns, the controling player can nominate a unit the Farseer Skyrunner from this formation can draw a line of sight to. For the duration of this turn, the cannon of the Fire Prism from this formation is Twin-Linked against that unit.

Not really surprised. I'd call it Eldar Trickery, if it wouldn't feel rather like something Tau would do.

PE is actually quite strong, particularly if you have a SC Kabbie or Trueborn upgrade, although this is somewhat countered by the presence of splinter racks on the raider.

Normal math vs a random target is 4/6 * 1/2 = 33% chance of wounding per splinter shot.
Revised math vs a random target is (4/6 + 1/6*4/6) * (1/2 + 1/6*1/2) = 45.37% chance of wounding per splinter shot.

Assuming 9 man kabalite squad (1 sc) on rackless raider w/ archon shooting at tactical marines in RF range.

* No Formation = 2.420 unsaved wounds + 1.33 wounds from dissie raider.
* Formation = 3.327 unsaved wounds + 1.33 wounds from dissie raider.

Confirmation on trueborn being allowed?

9 Warriors can't take a Splinter Cannon. 10 unlocks it, but remember the Archon can take his Venom or he'll be in whatever other squad you usually place your Archon.

As for the formation rule I like it because its fluffy, but in game I don't know how huge it will be. I tend to roll heaps of 1s though so maybe I'll run. But I don't know if it's really worth the loss of ObSec.....assuming they aren't ofcourse

Good point. What is the verdict on upgrading Kabbies to Trueborn ala Kabalite Raiding party? PE Blaster/Splinterborn would be pretty strong.

Warriors HAVE to take Raider etc?

Could easily provide the Archon with a Venom from another CAD & let him 'point' targets for a Raider full of Warriors with Splinter Racks? Twin-linked, Prefered Enemy?

My biggest issue however, as a 'Start Collecting' box it isn't actually very helpful getting a noob to 500pts:

To bring even the most basic DE CAD, you have to use so many points, you can only run the very bare essentials on the formation.

Ideally you want points to make the unit in the Raider bigger to make use of the formation rule & I kind of like the idea of splinter racks here too.

Archon has no upgrades at all.

Raider can't even bring 1 AT weapon

No caltrops on the Reavers, which just makes me sad.

So, I just end up dropping the formation, keeping the Reavers & adding a Ravager to get back to my standard 500.

Seems the Eldar rule is much stronger than the Deldar one. Surprise surprise!

None of the start collecting formations list minimum sizes on the squads you can take so it seems pretty likely that you can drop half the kabalite squad and stick the Archon in the raider too. As Trueborn are an upgrade to kabalites then you should be able to make Blasterborn of them. Does this open up the possibility for webway portaling blasterborn? 5 blasters exactly where you need them re-rolling 1's to hit? That's 4 statistical hits with a close to 50/50 chance for all 5 to strike. Then you have the lance on the raider to boot.

If it's the exact text as presented then wouldn't we have to get out of the raider in order to draw direct line of sight to the archon?

I don't believe so. The Archon can draw line of sight from Fire Points of a vehicle he's embarked in, can't be?

Is anyone surprised? Just more proof GW is utterly clueless (or just lazy) when it comes to DE.

I don't think we'll get a new dex until after 8th ed and most likely all the pointy ears will be combined in one book AoS style.
