I can see some occasions where threats of TPK could be useful, though. If everybody started to get off topic and began to play god the GM could have the party medic have a slight allergic reaction to the spontaneous combustion he just suffered.
Then everyone would be in line, but if they continue with ignoring the GM everyone dies.

I think it works out well.

I understood the Falling Rock but, I've never heard of the TPK term before. Now I know... I have no doubt it will be useful in the near future.

As long as you do the TPK at the correct time it can be quite good for the story.

It's only accidental or spite TPKs that are bad.

Don't get too carried away with thoughts of our impending slaughter Cavash We discussed the whole party death thing and it's not GM vs players .. it's GM sets up a realistic world in which we may easily find ourselves dead if we do anything silly. The difference is subtle but important
