Because everytime a new codex is rumoured there is a great fear... off in the basement of GW... down in the darkest corner a tombola spins and Jervis Johnson reaches in... he pulls out a piece of paper... and everybody fears that the paper shall read 'Matt Ward'.

Sure it would be nice: if reavers had assault grenades, and the talos had "it will not die", wyches need a slight point break/readjust, some of the vehicle upgrades need another look, power from pain could use some tweaks (like boosts that happen past 3 pain tokens), archon's court needs a fix, mandrakes need a fix.
But that's a very short list, and none of those make any of those units unplayable (apart from mandrakes). Ah, I can add to that - I'm fairly sure most people can - Scourges could use a tweak, characters on jetbikes/skyboards, who uses Shredders, the Chronos could be tweaked, I think Hellions might benefit from a points fall... there's a lot of stuff that could be fairly tweaked to make a better army for the entire game once you've started imo. I don't need a new codex, but, if written well, which is no guarantee, it would be nice.

| yeah for many of us we waited well over a decade and about 3 editions of the main rule book for a new codex.
Finally get one that was half decent and 18months later a new main rule book that hurt us. Not overly though just in little ways that are just plain annoying. and as stated previously a few small FAQ tweaks is all we really need for a while. but going on past experience i doubt we'll get a new codex for 6th ed.
and if we do, finger's crossed that Phil Kelly is still around to write it.

| I have to wonder if I'm the only person who thinks 6th edition was a huge buff to our codex.
Especially considering the crazy levels of nerfs recieved by Space Wolves and Grey Knights.
Since I'm doing the Eldar allies shtick, June will be a pleasant month. Like getting half of a codex update.

While GW logic is is difficult to follow at the best of times, Phil Kelly's revision of dark eldar both fluff wise and rule wise seemed really well received by everyone and it would make sense ever to GW to put him at the helm again, Thus Leaving ward to kill more avatars with heroes of the imperium.

First off, this is based on my playing experience with the army. The codex is playable, you can even make good armies with it, however Ito me it feel unfinished. It has tons of useless equipment, like the electro whip to name one. At point cost is of all over the place. Agonizer as an example it cost the same on everyone. In a space marine armies this is not a problem with pw, because there sergeants and IC have a difference on one attack, for the DE however, the price of agonizer is the same for a character how get one attack with is, as for a character how gets five. Then we have darklight weapons, the lance cost is ridiculously high, the cost for the short range blast pistol is a joke.
Power from pain This is cool rule, I like the fluff behind it. But it does not function smoothly on the table top. The major problem is that PtP support larger units, then the rest of codex favour msu. Pain tokens should be massed in CC, like they are then an IC joins a squad,
Warriors All they do is mass fire, with is only impressive when the opponent has high T models, or they can blast suicide. Both of with are done better by other units. There anti-tank guns is overpriced, and mass splinter fire are done better by other units.
Wyches wych weapons are sadly a joke, they might as well not been in the codex at all. The sharnet is overpriced for its situational use, the hydra gauntlet is worse chose than adding another wych, and so is the razorflail.
- Darklight wrote:
Incubis are incredible killing machines, with granades they would be OP (for what they are doing). Right, assault grenades on expensive high I low T models is op, Especially when the unit in question lack range weapons
I should probably stop here before all here starts to think that I hate my dark elder….
We are not space marines. You cant have it all. In every Codex out there you will find problems like this, you just cant balance everything. But we have units that works. We have a codex that works: By your logic there isnt anything but a half finished codex. Warriors, Trueborns, Ravanger, Sathonyx etc work because they fit together in a synergy. On their own units like Incubi, Grotesque, Archon, Talos, etc is good units its just that they generally dont fit in to the competitive army list. For exmaple, In our current codex Baron Sathonyx and Venoms are way overpowerd. Our main problems are Allies in this edition, and that can be fixed with the Eldar Codex. That might actually change our entire codex. Oh and I do agree with the post above that our codex got better in this edition.

| We're Xenos. Every Xeno codex does one or two things amazingly well and everything else sub-par.
As the best at Maneuver Warfare, we get a lot of weird options, sub-par units, and stuff that's actually pretty hard to use.
But that's a big part of the enjoyment for me. Using a codex where everything has to go exactly as planned in order to do well. And throwing in lots of specialists & squads geared to do only 1 thing really well.
From the old codex: I wish we could put HQs on bikes or skyboards, had terrorfex back, had the old mandrakes, and had webway portals that A) held our troops in reserve until the portal opened and B) were purchasable by any squad sarg.
Apparently stacking two or three +1's to combat resolution was a very DE thing to do back in the day as well.

To say the least. I loved the whole idea of dark eldar, but every model (and I do mean EVERY model) whas so eye shattering ugly (especially compared to our cousins) that I simply shunned away from the race. No though, they are on par with the eldar grace and the concept behind each unit aestethic wise is just fantastic imo.

| While I dont think we wil be getting a new codex any time soon, the good thing is the codex we already have covers all the bases and with a very complete model range- they'll actually be able to focus on adding new things instead of overhauling the codex (I'm looking at you 12" shuriken catapults) and models like they are having to do with the Eldar dex. | |

| My only problems with Dark Eldar vs 6th edition: 1) Because of running/flat out for everyone in addition to flyers, we have lost a one of our unique features, speed. With the ability to deep strike available to more units than ever, allowing almost all models to run/flat out and flyers reaching any part of the table within a single turn, Dark Eldar doesn't really feel like the fastest army anymore. 2) The new edition wrecked Dark Eldar assault in general. GW's philosophy of always allowing at least a single shooting phase in addition to overwatch against an assaulting unit is deadly versus a glass cannon army. Most armies, especially those released in the past year, have resilient units or numbers to compensate. That just won't do for Dark Eldar.
I doubt GW sees this as a priority though. The DE army works well enough. For the near future, our best hope is a nice Eldar codex, that we can take as allies.

This is the curse of the Eldar. In 2nd ed, Eldar could move 6" when everyone else could go 4". In 3rd everyone could move 6 but Eldar (and tyranids) gained fleet which was essentially run. In 4th/5th everyone could run but we still had our skimmer fleets. In 6th everyone has fliers and skimmers but ours can't vector strike

| Yeah but new fleet is awesome!!!! Reroll assault distance!!! Everyone else has a 2.78% chance of a 12" charge, we have a 9.33% chance. They have a 11.1% chance of a 10" charge, We have a 30.9% chance They have a 25% of
No they dont, thats just the chance of rolling two four or mores, not a six and a two, even so, surely I've proven something?

Agreed. A HUGE buff to our vehicles... (Show of hands.. who here remembers our raiders crashing to the ground from GLANCES?) A buff to reavers certainly. But.. a nerf to our wyches and as for our webway portals... Gah! Ripped the heart right out of half our builds.

| 6th buffed talos/cronos nicely too, with FNP being the invulnerable they never had, smash attack, hammer of wrath, 2d6 charge, overwatch, fear, etc.... | |

| Oh yeah, 6th edition was nice for some of our units, especially Raiders/Ravagers/Venoms.
But it did nerf some things, like our Webway Portal. The whole idea of that was the main reason I started Dark Eldar.

| yeah i agree a glancing hit from a stray bolter shot used to just ruin your day at least now we have a slightly better chance of surviving.
Yeah not being able to charge out of a WWP was really annoying. so i just switched around my tactics and have shooty units come through it now. Not as funny as it used to be though.

| Glad to see I am not the only one who likes HPs. Every marine around here is like "wah, muh land raider is gone". A few lances in the face and poof. I still think we are limited to a minimal amount of list that work competitively but there are a few new units that can get in there and wreck house (reavers). I am a huge lure nerd and really hope that if there is a 6th eventually they would not screw that up. I was getting tired of the codex creep that was happening in 5th. I am glad to see it is sort of leveling out and how 6th brought a couple of armies up to the forefront (nids and crons). | |

Disagree a bit , Necros ARE more mobile but there is less control due to arrivals but they are a small army . Deep strike is ok , turtle in a corners , when they land redeploy using your speed , dont make the mistake of fighting ..unless you wipe him out. We have Controlled movement for the whole game. The new edition didnt wreck assault it wrecked assault for wyches , Incubi are great now , wracks are still good. Wyches now have a more complex roll with the haywire grenades. You cant send them in vs everyone you need to soften them up first but SC are great for this.
