| I mean yeah the aura won't work in transports but do you want to keep our current useless aura? I certainly don't. Agree on heamonculi though, we should have no psychic powers in any way. | |

That's a false issue. They could just as easily give a special rule to open-topped vehicles to cover that problem.

| Just swap out our Archon's aura with something like the "My will be done" rule the Necrons have.
Necrons, though horribly overpriced, have some good examples of psykerless force multipliers in their index.

| I've said this already, but I want the Archon to have a 24" range, "Bring me their skin" ability to is basically a Doom : unit in your army rerolls 1's to wound against that target until your next turn. Kabal units reroll failed wound rolls instead. | |

Yeah, I can get behind that. Honestly, I think giving our characters an ability AND an aura wouldn't be out of the question. It's not exactly without precedent, and we really need the boost.

| Honestly I'll just be happy if the archon gets any sort of ability that makes him a force multiplier because right now he feels fairly useless. Having the shadowfield is nice but I want him to actually buff our army in a meaningful way. | |

I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure somebody noticed the aura mechanics doesn't works well with our army. It's not too hard to believe they add something to tweek somewhat the rule. Will the tweek be good or a blatant fail, we'll see.

This monday or next one? If it fits the rumours, we should be getting our first official info on Monday and preorders will be up next Saturday.

Reminds me of the special rules we got for the Purge Cotorie formation in 7th, at the start of each turn the Archon picked an enemy unit and the entire army got Preferred Enemy against them. It's exactly the kind of rules I think they should have.

| There was a break before Christmas, honestly I lost track but it isn't as if it would be hard to figure out. Just divide the number of weeks since releases started by the number of codex. There was a triple release to start but that should balance out the holiday break. | |

| Well they also are doing AoS now, before they didnt. So we might be 1-2 weeks behind at this point. | |

| Next week is releases for Necromunda and that AoS skirmish game. The title though for next week's preorders really threw me off: bold warriors in dark cities, turns out the article sadly wasn't referring to Commorragh. My guess is after this week's preorders we're next, since GW is releasing 40k codexes more quickly than AoS ones it's unlikely that the witch elves faction will get their army book before we get our codex. Plus we only need a one week release window, the new elf faction might need two given it will have a new model wave. | |

| I have to say, I'm not optimistic about this codex (shocking, right? ). Here are my reasons: - The split into Coven/Kabal/Cult was a bloody-awful idea, and one which flew in the face of our fluff. However, it seems GW are simply doubling down on that decision. And none of you wanted bonuses for Incubi, right? - No sign of new models, so we're stuck with just 3 generic HQs. And given that we're then subdivided into Cult, Kabal and Coven, that amounts to just 1 generic HQ per subfaction. - Since we're not getting any new models, this means no Wings, Jetbikes or Skyboards on our HQs. - This also means that most of our old Wargear won't be coming back, since a lot of it can't be represented on the models (conversions notwithstanding). But, hey, no one really liked Splinter Racks, right? And clearly Venom Blades are better on Scourges than Archons, anyway. - Quite frankly, I'm exceedingly dubious with regard to the amount of stuff they'll actually bother changing. Going by the Chapter Approved book, GW thinks our only issue is with Court of the Archon units being priced slightly too high. Does that give you confidence? Look, I'll admit it's possible that GW will surprise me. Hell, I'd love to be wrong about this. Maybe they'll suddenly unveil some new character models at the last minute, or suddenly allow us wargear that doesn't have a model (in spite of everything else they've done pointing to the exact opposite approach). Fantastic. Maybe they'll actually sort out our various balance issues (both internal and external). Great. Maybe they'll actually give us back some of our flavour. Awsome. In that case, I'll openly admit that I was completely wrong and join in the celebrations. However, there's just no way I'm being optimistic until I actually have the codex in my hands. Until then, I'm going to go with my default assumption - which is that GW still can't write a good DE codex. | |

| I might have agreed with you if it weren't for the fact that the splintermind guys helped playtest the codex and have said it's a good dex. Yeah, it's not going to be like some of our older codexes that had lots of fun wargear, but I trust the splintermind guys and since they said the dex will be good that's good enough for me. Just praying that this coming sunday they will announced our codex will be up for preorder on the 17th because the wait is getting tough. | |

And when the index came out, we had people (might have been FrontlineGaming, but I can't remember for certain) vouching for how great Wyches and Incubi were. - Lord Asvaldir wrote:

We're not really setting ourselves high standards, are we? - Lord Asvaldir wrote:

Each to their own. As I said, I'll concede the codex is good when I'm actually holding it in my hand and have had a chance to read it and confirm its goodness for myself.

| As a faction, we have been burned so badly and so often it is small wonder we are gunshy. YES, Splintermind said the Dex will make us happy. BUT We have heard all that claptrap before. It did not pan out to be true.
I am NOT saying in any way what i am about to say is fact, i am saying it is possible (it happened with frontline, didnt it?) It is POSSIBLE that splintermind, while garnering the great score of previewing and playtesting the new codex, is unwilling to upset the applecart, or bite the hand that is feeding them. Instead of giving a harsh review that may be warranted, they may be cherrypicking a few nice items and saying we will be happy. This keeps them in GW's good graces, and allows for future collaboration. If they said "Guys, this dex blows!" they no longer would be able to get pre releases. Perfect example = frontline Gaming's reviews. Quite laughable in retrospect.
In other words, no matter how much you want to be true, you cannot 100% trust a review from someone beholden to whom they are reviewing.
That being said, ESE has NEVER, and I mean NEVER said anything here I disagreed with. So with that bit of info, i am going into this optimistic, but not with any certainty. Hope it turns out as good as we are being told it is!

| To be honest my ONLY concern is that the codex is fluffy and a quality book, with new artwork, lore and such. To be honest I really, really like being a bottom tier codex if that makes sense... when I first picked up our codex in its 3rd edition it was a hard damn army to play, and that “hard mode” style of play is what is so attractive and makes our army relatively rare (which, to me, always added to their mystique- Dark Eldar raids are rare in fluff so it’s fitting only people who think like a Dark Eldar play them well lol)
That and I guess I hope we have some customizable HQ again... in 3rd edition we could have Archons, Wych Lords and Haemonculi riding reaver jetbikes, have scourge wings and hellion skyboards. In our 5th ed we also have whole pages of options to make custom, characterful HQs... then again, most codexes has that - it was easier to do RPGesque things back then. Overall though, I’m highly optimistic about it, whatever the case.

Well, our army already has a 'hard mode' - it's called Wych Cults. - Haemonculus wrote:

I'd certainly taking having flavourful rules/wargear and customisation characters over being a top-tier codex in terms of power. Sadly, every DE release since 5th has both made us worse in terms of power *and* removed flavourful options, rules and character customisation. It would be nice to think that our 8th edition codex might finally buck that trend.

| I don´t remember precisely but I think ESE never said we had a great dex. I think he said we had a solid dex. And I agree with skulnbonz I think ESE should carry some weight. Which means I am reasonably sure our dex is no where near as bad as the grey knights, but since he was also not shouting we are going to be so happy, it probably is also not as good as the tyranids.
It will probably be perfectly playable and have some good and bad options in there. It probably also means some lore (with the city in turmoil they have to put some new stuff there I guess). Unfortunately it also means that it probably is not the perfect great dex with all the options, lore, new pictures and rule exceptions we want everywhere, nor shall every unit be a competetive option. And don't expect new models or completely new units.
