i REALLY hope they dont make my nightspinner absolete. I've got 20 avengers. I hope that will prove to enough. Cant figure out the motive for the reboxing.

My guess is that Dire Avengers have received a boost of some kind in the new codex and will now be very popular. So GW sell half the quantity for the same price.

Huh. I glanced at that pic several times without paying too much attention, and I somehow assumed it was a bunch of Wraithlords standing in front of some Wraithknights

They already were. Any Eldar player of some worth have enough of Dire Avengers. Whole 5th they were pretty much go-to choice for Troops. Even if they were only taken to make Serpents scoring.

Although if the rumours are true and Eldar will have semi-rending shurikens and super-fleet.... well that makes them hellishly effective, and i probably will at last stop to regret i have 30 of them and Asurmen.

My store received the new White Dwarf today, so I naturally snatched one for myself! First off, Phil Kelly is the author, along with Adam Troke, who apparently has written some background. In my opinion, that's great, as I prefer Kelly's synergy army design far more than what I have called the "formless blob" approach of Ward, where each unit can do roughly the same.

The Wraithknight is HUGE, you can't properly tell it from the few leaked pictures that circulate the net. It's 9" tall, twice as tall as Wraithlord (even slightly more so), and from the report, has to be extremely tough. It completely dwarfs any regular model. It also costs the same as the new Battleforce, which means it will be some time until I buy one. Basically, it's the Eldar Baneblade/Shadowsword, except we can use it in regular games.

Wraithguards seem to be very poseable, with every weapon option in the box, which means I should stock up on magnets. The melee version indeed can tote swords along with axes. I'm not too keen with axes myself, but I think one could make very fine halberds out of the swords. Needless to say, I'll get a box of them along with the codex.

The flyers look pretty neat from angles, actually. Will see what their rules are to decide whether I want them or not, but from the extremely vivid descriptions of mobility in the sales pitch, at least one of them has to have Vector Dancer. I mean, c'mon.

What I could squint from the rules in the images, is quite neat. My favourite Warp Spiders seem to now have turned into Jet Pack infantry (while retaining the warp jump generator in wargear, will see what it does), and have Fleet and Hit & Run as baseline, along with the new special rule Battle Focus and Ancient Doom (which seems to be present in every entry that could be seen). From what Phil says in the back of the issue, Battle Focus is supposed to somehow increase specialization of Aspect Warriors. How, we will see.

There are also some neat artefacts in there, like the shard of a blade of Vaul that is +2S and Rending, gives the wielder Fearless and in a challenge wounds on 2+ with Instant Death. Or the wing of Faolchu that, if I read it correctly, gives 48" (!!!) run in the shooting phase, but the model cannot do anything else that turn. Or the 120" sniper rifle, which, despite the massive range and AP3, is still Heavy 1, which makes it somewhat silly, as it still wounds on 4+.

All in all, from what I could see in the White Dwarf, I am really excited and cannot wait to get the codex in my hands.

all of that sounds pretty nice, how you got your hands on a white dwarf before they are actually supposed to e on sale i have no idea but great job, really nice to have a large chunk of confirmation finally. looks like i have no choice but to somehow come up with another $100, so that i can get the Knight, the Wraithblades, the flyer, the psychic power cards, and the codex. i wonder if anyone wants a kidney that regularly produces kidney stones? selling point could be that it's a gift that keeps on giving.

and we're one step closer to the Ork Codex now as well.

Like I said, I work in a game store and we got them delivered today for some reason. It doesn't always happen like that, but this is a happy coincidence for me.

And you passed the good fortune onto us here Thanks for for the info! I must admit that I am a bit puzzled by the Dire Avenger price hike, though as others have mentioned most Eldar players already have a couple of these units. (I have 2 myself already) I am pretty jacked about these releases

Yes, Dire Avenger price hike literally made me laugh out loud - that box of five costs pretty much the same that the box of 10 does now. They have to be insanely souped up or something, because nobody in their right mind would buy much of them otherwise!

Runes of Warding:

Now adds +2 to your deny the witch role. Well if this is true what a huge difference we will see to the game. No longer will people be able to ally in a cheap anti-psyker that completely ruins your opponents chances of casting. Expect to see a rise in Monstrous creature heavy builds as well as tzeentch&aofc;horrors. The rune priest will firmly become King of the anti psyker.

Ancient Doom:

Eldar models suffer -1LD to all fear tests against daemons of slaanesh but pick up hatred against&aofc;such units. Could the Fear rule actually become useful for once

Holo Fields:

hmmm vehicles that move with this upgrade gaining an additional point onto their cover save is nice and would bring this old favourite back onto the battlefield for sure...

Targetter Weapons:

A new type of weapon system for the eldar added to Scatter lasers amongst others. A model fires this weapon first and if it causes at least one hit, then other weapons fired by the same model become twin linked! Warwalkers just got ouchy, and without the need for guide! How would you use this one?

Noo, my op Runes of Warding . Well, if the +2 is to Deny the Witch of the entire army, this would actually be an okay substitute, even though much weaker (and nowhere near as powerful in Apocalypse )

So Ancient Doom isn't Necron related at all, despite them being the Ancient Enemy of the Eldar race? Boo! At the same time, it seems pretty interesting - increased fear, but also hatred against the daemons. Pretty cool.

Can Scatter Lasers twinlink themselves? Either way, sounds pretty neat. Might be a reason to mix up War Walker weapons now. Hope they have dropped in price.


Oh and Cavash, I was actually referring on the Trueborn I made out of Dire Avengers, buuut one can still get plenty more bang from that little box by mixing it up a bit with the bits of the True Eldar!

Couple of things:

1) a new pic on Dakka (page 90) and elsewhere showing an Ulthwe force has the WK standing next to a WL and some WG's, reeeeeeeeeally good for size comparison!

2) someone else on Dakka made a good point, why CCW's for Wraithguard? Eldar already had numerous elite CC options, what do they need another for?

they had change the painting scheme of Ulthwee ? What are those huge yellow stripes :p

For the folks who want to make an all Wraith army? Considering that codex supplement they are going to bring out they expect it to be popular. In fact, I'm one of the suckers who's going to be doing this.

Umm, are any of those other CC units T6, S5? I think not! I too will be one of those suckers modeling that combo

my take on this is that if they leave in the current rules for the wraithguard, then taking 10 of them makes them troops, and the only other troop choice in our dex that is CC, sux at CC. think about now, an objective camping assault unit, that no one is going to want to assault in order to steal the objective away from us.

Stick them on a Falcon - twin-linked Pulse lasers have potential, and the two weapons systems together make for a fair light armour trasher. That said, how much is it going to cost? At present, that's 130 points for a battle tank with only two weapons. Presumably targetter weapons costs extra... worth it? Not sure.

Well that well and truly sucks. I'm really not liking what I'm reading about the new codex. I've been eagerly awaiting the new book for years but now it's almost here I find myself dreading it.

Did anyone else notice in that picture on Dakka that the Avatar is wielding two swords?

yes they've made us a new avatar. Regarding our troops and CC units we've gotten the option of letting our autarch convert some aspect warriors to troops!

And did anyone notice how the Spiritseer is giving the horns? \m/

Saw that, and had a good chuckle about it \m/

However, from what I've heard, the Autarch making troops out of the Aspects seems to be shakey recently, hoping it is true though...Fire Dragons as troops? Good Game >;3

So marines are going to be the only ones with a Battle Brother Anti-Psyker exemplar? Well that just blows something fiercely uncool =/

Though seeing more Monstrous Creatures will be good for us, Splinter Fire ;D

Yeah, the bumblebee yellow is pretty ghastly, glad its not the new studio Ulthwe scheme, the simple head swap on the riders does make a difference, though personally I would rather swap the entire torso with a guardian.

The WK in that picture looks really, really awkward though, it quite clearly wasn't designed for that pose and looks like its about to fall on its ass.
